Grrr!!! Phishing emails! You may have received one in your inbox, or at least you’ve heard about them. Everywhere you look there seems to be a new email with a link trying to lure you in! Phishing emails come disguised as emails from legitimate companies and request you click on a link to ‘update your details’, ‘rectify a problem’ or ‘pay an invoice’. Once the link is clicked numerous issues can occur. An example of phishing can be seen with the current Xero phishing email. Xero has addressed this on their blog and they also provide an image on what the phishing email looks like. Thanks Xero!
Here are some steps you can take if an email you’ve received doesn’t look right:
• Check the email address against the one you know to be legitimate (this is always good practice in identifying phishing scams).
• Hover your mouse over the hyperlink. This will identify the web address imbedded in the link. If it looks dodgy, it probably is!
