International Fraud Awareness Week runs from Sunday 17 to Saturday 23 November and is a week-long, cross government initiative. This year the aim is to get people talking about scams.
Today we are sharing some fantastic resources that BNZ has available to help you stay Scam Savvy. It is not just the elderly that are taken in by scams; did you know that under 35-year-olds made up one-fifth of all those affected by scams reported last quarter?*
In order to become Scam Savvy certified, all you need to do is visit getscamsavvy.co.nz. We have some great quizzes that will help you to identify scams, explain what to do when you spot them and show you how to respond if you have been caught up in one. In addition to this, there is ‘Scam Savvy Mobile’; a tool that takes you through different applications on your Mobile and what to be wary of. Lastly, ‘Scam Savvy Trending’ keeps you up-to-date on scam trends and what they look like.
If you are a regular visitor to BNZ Community, you will know that we frequently share tips and tricks about financial crime and inform you of what scams are currently doing the rounds. This information is designed to help you stay safe from scams and fraud so keep visiting our Community for updates.
If you are in a BNZ Branch this week, keep an eye out for the digital screens, which will be covering International Fraud Awareness Week, and do not forget to pick up a Scam Savvy brochure when you leave.
We would also like to encourage you to ‘Stop and think, is this for real?’ where scams are concerned; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
