Need help using BNZ Community? Have a look through the ‘how to’ tips below. If you need more information or have suggestions for the site please post them in our Site Feedback category.

Your account
Registering- Head to our Sign Up page to create a BNZ Community user account. Your username will be the name you are known by on the site. Once you have registered you will receive a verification email from BNZ Community - just click on the link in the email and you can get started!

Setting up your profile - To set up your profile click your avatar at the top right of your screen, then click on the Preferences icon (cog). You can now change your username and password, upload an avatar, update your email address, fill in your biography, and choose your notification settings.

Logging in - Log in to BNZ Community by clicking the Log In button at the top of the page.

Forgotten password or login name - There is a Forgot My Password option on the log in page. Just enter your username or the email address you used to register with - you’ll receive an email with instructions about what to do next.

Changing your password - Click on your avatar at the top right of your screen and go to the Preferences icon (cog).

Using BNZ Community
Searching - Just click on the Search icon (magnifying glass) and type in what you’re looking for. The most relevant posts and blogs will then come up and you can look through to see if they answer your question. If they don’t, you might want to post the question yourself once you are signed up and logged in.

Posting & replying - Click on the New Topic button on the homepage. Enter a title, choose the category (or leave it uncategorised if you are unsure), and then detail your question or message in the section entitled ‘body’. Click Create Topic, and your message will appear in the community.

You can also make new posts when browsing the threads on each of the BNZ Community categories - the button is located at the top right of the screen (same place as on the homepage). To reply to someone else’s post just click Reply. You can also highlight a portion of the comment to Quote Reply, so their words are quoted at the start of your reply (useful if the comment contains multiple points and you only want to reference one of them or highlight something).

Sending a private message - To send a private message click on your avatar then the Private Message icon (envelope). Alternatively, click on another users’ login name and send them a message from their profile.

Reporting inappropriate content - You can help moderate this community by flagging inappropriate content by clicking on the flag icon below each post. If 3 or more community members flag a post it is automatically hidden and the author is sent an automatic message informing them that the post has been hidden and requesting that they edit it to fall in line with community guidelines. In addition, the Community Manager and Moderator are alerted when posts are flagged, and will intervene where appropriate. Remember: flagging inappropriate posts correctly will earn you trust, but flagging posts erroneously or inappropriately will mean you lose trust (and therefore affect your ability to progress through our Trust Levels).

System requirements - BNZ Community is designed to work on the same modern browsers as www.bnz.co.nz. For more information click here.

Mobile - BNZ Community has been designed for newer mobile phones with web browsers and touchscreen controls. In general, if the internet works well on your mobile phone, then BNZ Community should as well.
